THE LGBTQ CENTER OF LONG BEACH REVEALS LINEUP FOR THE 31ST QFILM FESTIVAL

The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach has announced the 31st annual Long Beach QFilm Festival, scheduled from Thursday, September 5 to Sunday, September 8, with a supplementary outdoor screening on Saturday, September 21. This year’s festival is dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ cinema, presenting a diverse assortment of films that underscore the distinct experiences, challenges, and victories of the LGBTQ community.

The festival commences on Thursday with an exclusive reception at the Queen Mary Lounge, followed by a special screening of Melissa Etheridge: I am Not Broken. This intimate documentary provides a compelling insight into the life and career of one of the most iconic figures in LGBTQ music.

Friday heralds the inaugural night at the venerable Art Theatre, commencing with a reception at The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach. The evening’s film program features Still Working 9 to 5, a compelling documentary that reexamines the original 1980 film and investigates its influence on the contemporary workplace. Subsequently, the program includes Extremely Unique Dynamic and the short film Larry in the Sky with Diamonds.

Saturday presents a comprehensive schedule of screenings, commencing with Silver Screen Shorts, a series of films that honor the older LGBTQ community. Additional noteworthy programs include Long Beach Queeroes, Queer and Trans Short Films, and Asian Persuasion LGBTQ Short Films. The day culminates with two feature films: The Queen of My Dreams, an insightful examination of queer identity and heritage, and F.L.Y., which is preceded by the short film Second Thought.

Kick off your Sunday with the Men in Briefs short film program, then enjoy a delightful brunch at The Center provided by Lola’s Mexican Cuisine. Your afternoon will be filled with Women in Shorts and An Unexpected Community, a heartwarming documentary that celebrates the resilience and solidarity of LGBTQ communities. The festival concludes on a high note with Young Hearts, a youth-oriented film, and Lady Like Starring Lady Camden, followed by a beautiful selection of LA Queer Short Films.

As a special treat, the festival will host an outdoor screening at Long Beach Pride on September 21, featuring Maybelline Prince and special guest Stuart Milk in attendance.

Now in its thirty-first year, QFilms stands as the longest-running film festival in Long Beach. It serves as an indispensable platform for presenting films that encapsulate the rich diversity and experiences of LGBTQ communities. Annually, the festival attracts over 1,000 attendees and showcases a blend of World, West Coast, California, and Local premieres, along with some of the most highly acclaimed features on the film festival circuit. Attendees are afforded the distinctive opportunity to engage with filmmakers, actors, and other industry professionals during post-screening discussions and festival events.
