EDUCATE YOURSELF, AND BRING A FRIEND!

Two young people ready to learn about ways to Stop the Hate and spread love.

by lisa lipsey

The RAGE Monthly — alongside the California State Library and the Stop the Hate Campaign — is proud to support local efforts to educate our community and our allies about how they can help stop hate. (Or if you prefer, to educate us on how we can spread more love!)

The harsh reality is this: In California, the number of hate crimes dropped overall in 2023, except in one area: the LGBTQ+ community. Check out the full statistics in this Ethnic Media Sources story from July 22, 2024:

CONSIDER TAKING THE TIME TO ATTEND A STOP THE HATE TRAINING SESSION. KEEP SOMEONE YOU LOVE SAFE FROM HARM.

Join the San Diego LGBTQ Community Center for a webinar. The Center recently launched a training program to help us identify and de-escalate hate against our community. The Center is taking a three-pronged approach in the training webinar:

  1. Learn how to Identify LGBTQ+ hate speech and hate incidents, and understand hate crime definitions and statistics.
  2. Learn how and why we should report hate crimes and hate incidents.
  3. Learn about resources for victims, support services and learn about rights and protections for survivors.

The Center has included this Stop the Hate webinar as part of its Training Institute. The Center’s Training Institute was created in 2021 to provide “… high-quality, professional trainings to assist organizations to strengthen their knowledge and skills in working with the LGBTQ community, as well as how to best serve and respect LGBTQ people,” said Cara Dessert, The Center’s chief executive officer.
