Davina and the Vagabonds Return To La Jolla for Two Holiday-Themed Shows
Experience the unmatched talent of Davina and the Vagabonds as they grace The JAI stage at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla for two spectacular holiday-themed shows like no other!
Davina and the Vagabonds have become a sensation in the national music scene, captivating audiences with their dynamic live performances and Davina Sowers’ captivating stage presence. Presented by the La Jolla music society, join in the festive spirit as you sing along with Davina to your favorite holiday tunes.
The Vagabonds themselves draw inspiration from a wide range of artists, including Aretha Franklin and Fats Domino. They’ve won over audiences across the globe from their high-energy performances, and their albums routinely make it to the top of the blues charts when they’re released. The group’s clear and concise sound, as well as their emphasis on acoustic instruments, set them apart in both the blues and jazz worlds.
Audiences gravitate toward their performances because of their high energy and mixture of New Orleans charm, soul swagger from Memphis, memorable theatrical moments and heart-stirring gospel passages. Sowers’ voice in particular gets likened to the greats like Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday, Etta James, and even Betty Boop, making her a true original in the business.
Bringing a century of American music to life, along with Davina’s original compositions that seamlessly fit into the American Songbook, the band delivers a unique blend of edgy nostalgia for older generations and fresh, vibrant music for younger ears. Anchored by Sowers’ masterful keyboard playing, the ensemble features acoustic bass, drums, and a lively trumpet and trombone horn section.
Although we’ll have to wait to see the details of the holiday show, the band released their first holiday album, “A Lovenest Holiday,” back in 2020 to use as inspiration. Additionally, The JAI is a small and intimate venue where attendees are able to enjoy wine, cocktails, and table-side service during the show.
